Reaching Out 2008 Annual SickKids Radiothon
This year, the 2008 Annual SickKids Radiothon raised more than 4 million dollars for the Hospital for Sick Children. From Wednesday, March 26th to March 28th, 2008 Starr Alliance and our operating Principals once again supported the annual Hospital For Sick Children Radiothon which was aired on 99.9 MIX FM, 1010 CFRB AM, and 97.3 FM Radio Stations. For 3 incredible days stories of people whose lives have been touched by SickKids were presented. All donations go directly to the hospital to fund much needed research and technology that help make SickKids one of the leading children's hospitals in the world. For more information, please visit the SickKids website. SickKids Foundation Since 2000 Starr Alliance - together with our operating Principals - has actively participated in the annual SickKids Radiothon at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. With the support of our Principals and many other food companies, Starr Alliance provides cooked meals for dozens of parents, children, volunteers and radio personnel during the 3 day radiothon fundraiser. Thank you to all of our principals, friends and family that help support us and this amazing Hospital.
Margo Starr, Steve Anthony (99.99-the Mix), Brad Starr (President of Starr Alliance) and Michael O'Mahoney (President of Sick Kids Foundation) A Message from the SickKids Foundation Dear Friends, When The Hospital for Sick Children opened its doors in 1875 there were no medical facilities designed specifically for children - even though 50 per cent of all recorded deaths were children under the age of 10. Now, 130 years later, our hospital is recognized as one of the greatest children's hospitals in the world and a national treasure focused on treating children with the most complex childhood diseases and serious injuries. The quality of care provided by the health professionals and other health care workers here is based on the founding principle of the hospital: that we would treat the children of tomorrow better than we treat the children of today. As a result of this determined focus, SickKids has a rich legacy of discoveries and medical advances that no one else dared dream possible. We have established a world-renowned research institute that is fully integrated with our hospital, concentrating everyone's efforts on childhood diseases. We have people from around the world who are the very best in their field choosing to come to SickKids because of what they can learn and accomplish here and only here. SickKids isn't a place where miracles just happen. They are the result of everyone, including our donors, going above and beyond what is expected of them in order to give children the chance to live life healthy - from infants born with congenital diseases who need medical attention from the moment they are born, to children who become so ill they need our hospital to invent procedures and tailor therapies in order for them to have even a slim chance at a future. The complexity of care that we provide at SickKids is expensive and the reality is that most of what it takes to handle the complex cases is funded by philanthropy. This year we are launching the largest fundraising campaign for a hospital in Canada with a target of $500 million to be reached by 2011. This target is achievable and necessary, and comes at a critical juncture when child health in this country is at risk of becoming an afterthought as the public turns its attention to the health care needs of an aging population. We cannot forget the children. The focus of the campaign is threefold: Our goal is to raise the funds needed to ensure SickKids has the right equipment, the right space and the right people. We are raising funds to ensure that we continue to make the advances and discoveries necessary to improve the world's knowledge and treatment of childhood diseases; and we are raising funds to invest in programs that advocate for improvements in child health on behalf of every child, everywhere. SickKids is a family of people who will do everything possible to ensure children are given the chance to live their lives to the fullest. You are an integral member of the SickKids family, because your donations are critical to the long-term success of our hospital. SickKids is a world leader in pediatric medicine because its support extends out into the community to people - young and old. From lemonade stands to staff picnics to black-tie galas, philanthropy and the resources it provides has made SickKids the first destination of the world's best physicians, nurses and scientists, and the pediatric "university" of the most promising students. We hope that you will join us in a campaign that is right for our children and our children's children. Believe as we do that healthier children lead to a better world, and help us continue our legacy of treating the children of tomorrow even better than we treat the children of today. Thank you for your continued support. Michael O'Mahoney President SickKids Foundation Ruth Grant Chair, Board of Directors SickKids Foundation |
